Womin-dji-ka Welcome to Malamiya Mang, an arts and culture program of events for mob, for allies, for families, and for friends. Coming in September

DUMAWUL proudly invites you to celebrate Culture and connect with Djaara People and Country at Malamiya Mang 2026. This unique program of events, of Cultural 'happenings', celebrates the deep connection between Dja Dja Wurrung Country and People, from the past, to the here and now. “Malamiya” means “long ago” and “Mang” means “now” in Djali (Dja Dja Wurrung language). Our program will feature exhibitions, workshops, tours and ceremony, and all people are welcome to come together in the spirit of sharing, learning and celebrating.

This year, our program graphic has been created by talented Djaara artist, Troy Firebrace @TroyFirebrace. Troy's work is both aesthetically pleasing and deeply meaningful: "this design reflects an opportunity to step away from linear thinking and creates the opportunity for circular time to be known. The past, present and future are depicted as a ceremonial practice within Country illustrated here in the form of patterns surrounded by smoke. Starting from the larger pattern work representing the past, the shapes become smaller representing the future this is reflective of family structures within community from Elders to children. Circular thinking and time creates a transcendence of connection, knowing that the words, actions, knowledge and practice have come from past, being foundational to present and transferring into the future, forever interchanging and interconnected."
